Trend historical analysis of the training process of medical informatics in Cuba

Abstract

For developing the tendential-historical analysis of the formation process of medical informatics in Cuba is carried out taking as point of departure the establishment of four stages which are identified with transcendental moments of social, cultural and political evolution of the country and substantial changes developed in the different syllabuses departing with the beginning of Informatics in Medical Sciences. The first stage from 1970 to 1081; the second, 1982 to 1992; the third, 1993 to 2002 and the fourth, from 2003 up to the present. The characterization of the syllabus revealed that there are insufficiencies in the conception of the discipline when integrating it with other disciplines without establishing nexus among them. Still insufficiencies are evident which require urgent treatment being impertinent integration of Informatics with the rest of the biomedical subjects or disciplines. Until the two first stages special emphasis was done in the technical equipments and usage of computing syllabuses designed by non-medical specialists, by which reasons, health professionals were only limited to make use of the educative software.
