The influence of Baixa de Kasanji in angola´s independence

Abstract

The struggle between the former inhabitants of the present territory of Angola and the Portuguese, dates back to the 15th century. This can be thought from the Kingdom of Khongo, Ndongo, Matamba until the 20th century with the Kingdom of Kwanyamas by Mandume ya Ndemufayo and Ndembus, which reveals the various attempts to free themselves from the Portuguese. In this context, the shout of Baixa de Kasanji, was the revolt that gave impetus to the various subsequent struggles that allowed Angola's independence. Therefore, the article aims to explain the uprising of Baixa de Kasanji, considered by many as one of the greatest massacres in the history of Angola. Given the importance of this theme, the description will be made in order to facilitate the understanding of the influence of Baixa de Kasanji uprising on the national independence of Angola, which was provided by the peasants who at a given moment and influenced by the neighbours of the Democratic Republic of Congo, lost their fear and took machetes and canhangulos to put an end to the suffering that was being carried out in the cotton cultivation, COTONANG. The international context, plus the internal unrest, allowed the peasants to provide the prelude to the beginning of the liberation struggle of Angola, this on January 4, 1961, which later continued on February 4, 1961, until the achievement of independence on November 11, 1975.
